Prof. Dr.-Ing. Philipp Junker

Philipp will join Leibniz University Hannover and become the head of the Institute of Continuum Mechanics (successor of Prof. Peter Wriggers) in April 2021. Philipp’s research focusses on the physical description of solids. To this end, he develops and uses thermodynamic extremal principles to derive models for various processes in materials. Examples are phase transformation in solids, damaging and quantification of stochastic fluctuations. Furthermore, Philipp aims at optimizing construction parts by the very same principles as used for material modelling. This enables him to develop methods for a simultaneous material and topology optimization.
