IRTG Workshop Strausbourg

Between May 19 and 23, 2025, the PhD-candidates from the German and the French side gathered in cross-cultural city of Strasbourg, for a self-initiated workshop focused on Model Order Reduction Techniques.

This workshop focused on exploring and applying various model order reduction techniques through hands-on experience with simple engineering problems. Participants from the IRTG team were divided into groups based on the method they selected to implement—namely Reduced-basis method, POD, etc. The collaborative format allowed groups to share their gained knowledge, fostering collective learning. In addition, PhD students presented their ongoing work to encourage potential research collaborations. Elise Foulatier from the French team gave a detailed presentation on PGD and developed a MATLAB exercise for solving the heat equation using this method. During the workshop, one evening was set aside for social activities. The group visited local tourist attractions and went on a walk together. This gave everyone a chance to relax, talk, and get to know each other better outside of the technical sessions.
